Dear visitor, This is the provisional website for my private press studio Falstaff & Fakir. I'm working on digital and paper editions of illustrated alphabets, poetry books, essays, and more. In the meantime I post here about inspirational book art projects I find elsewhere on the world wide web.

There’s a new website for Falstaff & Fakir. With a separate blog. From today I’ll be blogging on www.falstaff-fakir.nl/weblog. And by the way, I’ll mostly write in Dutch there. Perhaps with an occasional English or Swedish line. Come visit me soon, you’re welcome.

Practicing and learning all the time. This weekend I printed a small edition of a Valentine sheet, using my wooden type for the first time. They are very neat letters, 96 pts, lower and upper case complete, vintage but virtually undamaged. The Valentine contains two lines from a poem by the Dutch poetess and artist Maria Tesselschade Roemers Visser (1594-1649).

Gelukkig Nieuwjaar - Happy New Year - Gott Nytt År
It’s the first time I printed a season’s greeting card on my own letterpress. I’m not satisfied about the result, noticing lots of things that went wrong. But my family thought the card was pretty enough to send to our friends, and therefore I also venture to publish it here. The card is folded to fit in an envelope, but set up properly it reminds me a bit of an old-fashioned Swedish tiled stove. Inside the hatches are my printed new year’s wishes in Dutch, English and Swedish.
To all visitors of this blog:
May you stay inspired in everything you’ll be doing in the new year!
